The Children of Night

Day after day more and more children are being abused. In America, people are aware of its presence, but the majority of them do not do anything about it. If people do not stand up to the abuser, then nothing is standing between them and the child. In this case silence is not golden. When children are being abused they lose their voice. They are scared if they say anything that their abuser will punish them in the cruelest of ways or maybe kill them. These children need someone to stand up and be the voice they don’t have. In the book Night, written by Elie Weisel, Weisel talks directly about how not taking a side and speaking up for the children helps the abuser. Elie Wiesel “... swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take a side. Neutrality helps the oppressor never the victim. Silence encourages the torments work, never the tormented” (Weisel). America knows the situation. They know exactly what is going on around them, yet they do nothing about it. Money isn't everything in this case. Yes, it helps a lot but, sometimes all the children need are a voice. Be the voice they don’t have.
